Declaración Pública al Presidente de los Estados Unidos

Nosotros, la Iglesia Anabaptista Puerta del Rebaño, creemos en la paz. Creemos en la paz como una propuesta de vida personal, pero también para la vida comunitaria, nacional y las relaciones internacionales. Creemos que la única forma de construir un mundo mejor y más igualitario es a través de la paz. Por lo tanto, pedimos al Presidente Bush, al Primer Ministro Tony Blair y al Primer Ministro Australiano John Howard que reconsideren un posible ataque contra Iraq. Creemos, también, que la única forma de garantizar la paz internacional y la seguridad de cada país involucrado es trabajando y logrando una paz duradera y la igualdad. Por otro lado, nos parece claro que la guerra crea un círculo de violencia creciente sin salida.

Nosotros creemos que la paz en Nuestro Señor Jesús debe ser reflejada en relaciones de respeto y verdad entre los seres humanos. Estas relaciones de respeto y verdad nos llevan a llorar con las victimas de los ataques del 11 de septiembre en Nueva York pero también con los que sufren en Afganistán y en todas partes del mundo. Además, Nuestro Señor Jesús nos llama a amar a nuestros enemigos y eso incluye al pueblo afgano, iraquí y hasta a Osama Bin Ladin y Sadaam Hussain. Por lo tanto, pedimos que, en vez de atacar, Estados Unidos use este dinero para reconstruir este mundo tan dañado por la guerra.

 

 

Public Declaration to the President of the United States of America

Concepción, Chile, october 15th, 2002

We, the Anabaptist Church 'la Puerta del Rebaño', believe in peace. We believe in peace as a proposition for personal life but also in community and national life and in international relations. We believe that the only way to construct a better and more equal world for all is through peace. Therefore we ask that President Bush, Prime Minister Tony Blair and Australian Prime Minister John Howard reconsider a possible attack on Iraq. We also believe that the only way to guarantee international peace and the security of each country involved is to work for and achieve with peace and equality. It seems clear to us that war creates an unending circle of violence.

We believe that the peace we have in Our Lord Jesus must be reflected in relationships of respect and truth between human beings. These relationships of respect and truth bring us to cry with the victims of the attacks of the 11th of september but also with those who suffer in Afghanistan and in all other parts of the world. On top of this Our Lord Jesus calls us to love our enemies, which includes the Afghani and Iraqui peoples and even Osama Bin Ladin and Sadaam Hussain. Therefore we ask that, instead of an attack against Iraq, the funds be used to help reconstruct this world so damaged by war.
